Sonora PD Investigating Thefts

Sonora, CA– This week Sonora authorities have taken several reports regarding the thefts of catalytic converters.

The Sonora Police Department says that during the last four days, four catalytic converters have been reported stolen from Toyota vehicles.

Catalytic converters contain platinum and rhodium, both of which are expensive metals and currently have a high resale value.  All of the thefts have occurred during the day and have been in parking lots.

Police Chief Mark Stinson says the thieves are targeting Toyota vehicles for two reasons. One is because most Toyota catalytic converters can be easily unbolted from underneath the vehicle. The second reason is because the amount of platinum and rhodium is higher in Toyota catalytic converts than other manufacturers.

Anyone with information regarding these incidents is encouraged to call the Sonora Police Department at 532-8141.
