Highway 49 Accident Details

Mokelumne Hill, CA — Highway 49 was closed for nearly eight hours from Mokelumne Hill to the Calaveras-Amador County line yesterday.

The CHP reports that a big rig truck rolled over during the noon hour, and covered Highway 49 with 200 gallons of liquid asphalt. The driver of the truck, 52-year-old Brian Bell of Sacramento, suffered moderate injuries and was taken to an out-of-county hospital. The CHP reports that Bell went into a turn too quickly, causing the trailer to tip over.

The truck hit two vehicles in the opposing northbound lane. The drivers were 67-year-old Laura Kenyon of Mokelumne Hill and 50-year-old Helen Gonzaga of Antioch. The women were not injured, however, a dog in Kenyon’s vehicle was killed.
