Mokelumne River Bridge Parking Project

Mokelumne Hill, CA — There is now parking along Highway 49 near the Mokelumne River Bridge. The new Big Bar put-in/take-out facility for boaters opened to the public yesterday.

It has 18 parking spaces, restrooms and an interpretive kiosk. The area is popular for recreationalists, but it is also a dangerous location right on Highway 49.

The project, located near the Calaveras-Amador County line, was overseen by the Bureau of Land Management. The BLM had been exploring the possibility of creating parking spaces at the site for the past 25 years.
