College Costs Increasing

Columbia, CA — The cost to attend a Community College in California is going up this fall, as the per-unit fee will increase by $10.

“Right now we’re looking at about $36 a unit, and there’s talk about even increasing it more,” says Dr. Dennis Gervin, Columbia College President. “It’s still a great deal, but it is significant, and will affect students.”

The state sets tuition for community colleges. Depending on how state revenues come in, lawmakers have talked about possibly increasing the cost-per-unit another $10 later in the year. Community College funding has been cut around $290 million this fiscal year.
