Controlled Burn Starting

Long Barn, CA — Drift smoke will be possible across the Mother Lode.

The Stanislaus National Forest is scheduled to start a 1,000 acre controlled burn near Long Barn today. The burn will be located above the Middle Fork of the Stanislaus River, approximately ½ mile down-stream from the Spring Gap Powerhouse. The Forest Service says the purpose of the burn is to restore historic, fire resistant conditions and to improve resource protection for the area.

Weather permitting, the burn is expected to last 9-12 days.
