Service To Remember Fire Chief

Murphys, CA — Murphys Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Dennis Powers passed away last week.

Powers, 57, was surrounded by family members and loved ones at his home. Powers had retired in 2007 from the Copperopolis Fire Protection District after serving for 37 years. He started as a volunteer in 1970 and eventually became Fire Chief.

Upon retirement, Powers was a volunteer for the Murphys Fire Department and primarily helped with training. A memorial service will be held Thursday at 11am at the Calaveras County Fairgrounds. Following the memorial, a fire engine procession will escort Powers to his resting place in Copperopolis. It is expected that as many as 200 fire engines will be on hand and numerous firefighters.
