Teen Caught Trying To Steal Vehicle

Sonora, CA — A teen was caught trying to steal a vehicle near downtown Sonora.

Police Chief Mark Stinson reports that a man in the 100 block of Shepherd Street went out to his vehicle yesterday morning and saw a male juvenile sitting inside. When confronted, the juvenile exited and took off running. The victim noticed that there was damage done to the ignition housing and the stereo had been removed.

The victim gave the Police Department a detailed description of the juvenile, and the suspect was located a short time later in the parking lot of Cassina High School. The victim went over and identified the juvenile as the one that tried to steal his vehicle. Officials are not releasing the juvenile’s name because he is a minor. He resides in Columbia.

The juvenile was taken into custody and turned over the Tuolumne County Probation Department.
