Officer Will Be Honored

A past officer with the Sonora Police Department will be added to the California Peace Officers Memorial in Sacramento.

Police Chief Mark Stinson requested that Officer John Sheldon, who died in 1855, be added. Stinson made the request after recently learning that Sheldon was murdered while serving in the line of duty.

Stinson heard back this week from Selection Committee Chair Pete Brodie, who stated that Sheldon will be added to the memorial next year. He will be one of the officers recognized at a special ceremony on May 7, 2012.
