PG&E Proposes Rate Increase

Sacramento, CA — PG&E customers may have their energy rates increased.

The company has filed plans to with the state to raise electric rates by 0.40 percent beginning in January of 2012. Although the increase is less than one percent per customer, it would bring in approximately $47 million to PG&E.

PG&E reports that the extra funding would go towards technology. The public notice of the proposal reads that it is for, “Recovery of costs of the market redesign and technology upgrade (MRTU) initiative.”

The rate increase must still be approved by the California Public Utilities Commission.
