Another Scam Reported

The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office is warning of another scam that deputies are investigating.

On Wednesday, several San Andreas residents reported that teens were going door-to-door claiming to be selling magazine subscriptions to help pay for college. In one instance, a victim gave $69 with the understanding that the teen was going to return in an hour. The victim never saw the teen again.

On Thursday, there was a similar report of teens soliciting magazine sales in the area of Daphne Street in Valley Springs. The reporting party was concerned because one of the teens was being overly persistent about being allowed into the home.

The Sheriff’s Office acknowledges that not all magazine sales offers are scams, but make sure that you know the person and they are reputable. Also, avoid letting people that you do not know into your home.
