Pilot Dies In Calaveras County Crash

Calaveras County, CA — Calaveras County Sheriff’s department reports a pilot died after the plane he was flying crashed. It happened just before 4pm. The Sheriff Department reports the plane crashed 3/4 quarter miles south of Maury Rasmussen Field at the Calaveras County Airport.

When deputies arrived on scene they found the smashed plane with the pilot dead inside. There is no word on whether the plane was trying to take off or land when the accident happened. Sheriff’s officials are not releasing the pilots name pending notification of the family. Also, they are not saying what injuries the pilot suffered in the crash.


Deputies say the plane is an experimental aircraft. The case has been transferred to FAA and NTSB for further investigation.
