Slim Support For Prop 30

A new poll finds that the Governor’s tax initiative still has support, but the gap is closing.

The Public Policy Institute of California poll shows that 48% of likely voters support Proposition 30, 44% say no, and 8 percent are undecided. A poll conducted by the organization last month found that the Governor’s proposal had 52% approval, so the gap is closing.

Governor Brown’s initiative calls for a sales tax increase of a quarter of a cent, and would increase the income tax on earners making over $250K.

The poll also found that a competing tax measure, Proposition 38, has 39% support, 53% are against and 9% undecided.

On a related note, a USC Poll was released earler this week showing that the Governor’s plan had 46% in favor and 42% in opposition.
