Local Hunters Missing

Angels Camp, CA — A search is underway in Alpine County for an Angels Camp man and his nephew.

40-year-old Devin Smith and the 14-year-old nephew were last seen in the Hermit Valley area. A deputy at Alpine County’s Bear Valley Substation reports that roughly 70 people are assisting with the search this morning, and officials have been called in from counties like Tuolumne, Amador, Contra Costa, Marin, and Lassen.

The pair was last seen on Sunday, and they were in an area that has been hit by heavy snowfall. They were originally with a group of other hunters, but became separated. We’ll pass along more information when it becomes available.

Updated at 12:50pm: Smith was also in the news in October of 2009 when he got lost while hunting in Calaveras County. To read the earlier story, click here.
