Reagan Statue At Capitol

The Governor has signed a bill to green light the construction of a Ronald Reagan statue at the state capitol.

Reagan was California’s 33rd Governor, and obviously later went on to become President. AB 2358, calling for construction, had bi-partisan support in the legislature. Governor Jerry Brown used the bill signing yesterday to make somewhat of a political statement.

“I served as Secretary of State when he was Governor,” said Brown. “Even in those days he demonstrated courage and unique leadership ability-even to the point of raising California taxes when he saw they were needed.”

As President, Reagan was known for cutting taxes. It is noted that construction of the statue will be paid for with private funds.
