Teen Hurt Near High School

Sonora, CA — A teen was hurt after being hit by a truck near Sonora High School yesterday afternoon.

The Sonora Police Department reports that 19-year-old Ashlee Chatfield of Sonora was walking through a marked crosswalk and was hit by a Ford F-350 driven by 22-year-old Megan Flood of Sonora. Flood had been driving eastbound on School Street and came to a stop before turning onto Washington Street. Chatfield saw Flood stop, so she walked across North Washington.

Flood did not see any vehicles approaching, so she accelerated, only to hit Chatfield. The Police Department notes that an oncoming vehicle on Washington Street had stopped for Chatfield, and Flood thought the vehicle was stopping for her.

Police Chief Mark Stinson reports that Chatfield suffered major head and body trauma as a result of the accident. She was airlifted to a hospital in Modesto for treatment. This morning there is not an update on her condition. An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
