Sonora Teen Dies Near Clavey

Tuolumne County, CA — Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Officials have been investigating a tragic death near the Clavey River.

It happened late last week near Forest Road 1N01. Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Sgt. Jeff Wilson reports that 19-year-old Daniel Cox had been camping with a group of friends and he fell off a steep embankment.

The Sheriff’s Office reports that alcohol played a factor in the accident, which occurred early in the morning during the one o’clock hour. After Cox was found, one of his friends got in a vehicle and drove approximately an hour in order to get cell phone reception to call 911. When Sheriff’s Officials arrived at the isolated area, Cox was pronounced dead.
