Update On Yosemite Search For Boy

Yosemite National Park, CA — Crews are combing the river for any sign of 6 year old Jacob Adams of Orange County. It’s been week since Jacob and his 10 year old brother Andrew were swept down the Merced River after stopping to take a swim. Andrew’s body was pulled out of the river by a park visitor on Wednesday, August 15th.

Rangers say rains this weekend have the river level high and is making the current swift and the search dangerous and difficult. They say with no rain in the forecast and dry conditions they expect the river level to drop making it easier for divers to get under boulders. Rangers say the search will go on indefinitely.

Last Wednesday afternoon, the two brothers were visiting the park with an extended family group and were hiking to the Vernal Fall Footbridge. They stopped to take a break and got into the river and were swept by the strong current. Andrew’s body was pulled from the river about 150 yards below the footbridge. An intensive search began immediately for Jacob.

Rangers are searching in and around the Merced River from the Vernal Fall Footbridge to Happy Isles. This mile long stretch of river is characterized by large boulders, chutes, and small waterfalls.
