Too Late For Ballot Renumbering

Sacramento, CA — Responding to a lawsuit filed by an anti-tax group, attorneys for the Secretary of State’s Office and Gov. Jerry Brown’s tax campaign say it is too late to renumber the November ballot initiatives.

In June, the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association filed a lawsuit alleging state lawmakers illegally used majority-vote budget powers to put the Governor’s Proposition 30 tax initiative on the top of the ballot.

Attorneys for Brown’s initiative and Secretary of State focused on the problems it would cause to have to change the numbers with such short notice. They say it would disrupt the elections by causing voter confusion.

State Officials have until Aug 13 to get voter guides to the state printer on time.
