State Employees Take Pay Cut

Sacramento, CA — Most California state workers will receive a smaller pay check starting this month.

An estimated 217,000 state workers will receive a five percent pay reduction. It is the result of furloughs imposed by Governor Jerry Brown to help balance the state budget. 19 of the public employee unions agreed to the furloughs for one year, in exchange, workers will receive an extra day off each month. The move will save approximately $850 million.
