Some State Employees Salaries Skyrocket

Sacramento, CA – The Associated Press reports California lawmakers have handed out raises to more than 1,000 state legislature employees in the last year. They say those raises were given by lawmaker even after they slashed budgets and cut pay for other state workers.  Some of those pay cuts  took 5% off workers wages.  Newly released documents show some of the recent raises were as high as 10% for top staffers.

A spokesman for Senate President Pro Tem Darrel Steinberg says the merit increases came after several years of pay freezes and some cuts.
