Fatal Accident Update

There was a fatal accident Saturday afternoon on Highway 108 near the Highway 49 Montezuma Junction.

The CHP says the unidentified 55-year-old man is from Escalon. Officers believe that a tire went out on a 2002 Ford driven by 52-year-old Joel Gruenhagen of Modesto, causing the vehicle to cross into the opposing traffic lane. Gruenhagen’s vehicle then slammed into a 2012 Toyota driven by the 55-year-old Escalon man. Gruenhagen heard a loud bang, which was possibly his left front tire going flat.

It happened at 4:05pm on Saturday afternoon. An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
