Child Obesity A Local Problem

Tuolumne County, CA — Let’s Get Healthy California. That is the theme of a new state panel coming together to fight obesity.

One of those selected for the panel is local educator Tuolumne County Superintendent of Schools, Joe Silva.
He says obesity is at epidemic proportions across this nation and right here in the county. He says it cost this nation billions in healthcare.

He has worked on several child obesity programs in area schools to teach prevention. Silva believes his recent work on the Fit for the Future Program landed him a seat on the panel. It works with 5th and 6th graders on exercise and diet. This week Silva says they will release the results of the year long project.
