Big Events Coming Soon

Hear an update on Rope, Ride and Ribbit this weekend.

Numerous events are scheduled over the coming weeks surrounding the Amgen Tour, Mother Lode Roundup and Calaveras County Fair and Jumping Frog Jubilee. This weekend’s Mother Lode Views will feature Darrell Slocum talking about the Amgen Tour, Al O’Brien highlighting the Roundup, and Laurie Gianinni speaking about the Fair.

Taking place Sunday is the Gran Fondo ride, where bike enthusiasts have a chance to ride a portion of the Sonora Amgen Tour route. Later in the day is the “Bike, Trike and Ride” beginning at 3pm at Sonora Elementary School. Stage Four of the Amgen Tour leaves Sonora on May 16th beginning at 10am. Some of the top cyclists in the world will take part in the event, which is the largest bicycle race in North America.

Related to the Roundup, the Queen Pageant is coming up on Sunday, May 6th at the Sonora Elks Lodge. On May 9th is the Band Review at Sonora High School and on May 10th is the Calcutta at the Posse Grounds in Jamestown. The Mother Lode Roundup is set for Mothers Day weekend, May 12-13.

On May 2nd is the popular Capitol Frog Jump in Sacramento. Senator Ted Gaines is continuing the tradition started by John Garamendi. Lawmakers and staffers take part in a frog jump on the California Capitol steps. The Fair itself is May 17-20. Over 35,000 people are expected to be on hand. The Frog Jump portion often draws national media attention.
