Tuolumne County Employee Arrested

Sonora, CA — A former Tuolumne County Transportation Council employee has been arrested.

The District Attorney’s Office reports that Mahesh Sukumar faces felony charges related to grand theft, unauthorized use of a computer system, and fraudulently obtaining telephone services. Sukumar was a Transportation Planner with TCTC.

The DA’s Office reports that an arrest warrant was obtained following an investigation which produced evidence that Sukumar was brokering airline tickets from his work station, during work hours, using the county computer system and telephone services. A statement from the District Attorney’s Office calls Sukumar’s conduct, “an insult to the hard working public employees in Tuolumne County who have suffered layoffs, furloughs, and pay reductions over the last four years.” The statement also expresses thanks to HR Analyst Ann Fremd and County Administrator Craig Pedro for their cooperation and assistance in the investigation.
