Bypass Contract Under Budget

Caltrans last week awarded a $22.9 million contract to Teichert/MCM Construction to build Stage II of the East Sonora Bypass.

Around 26.7 million was budgeted, according to Executive Director Darin Grossi. The project is expected to take two years to complete, and will extend the bypass from Peaceful Oak Drive to Via Este.

“Some of the preliminary work is already starting out there,” says Grossi. “You’ll see some utility relocation going on, and then the heavy construction should start around May.”

Grossi notes that TCTC is currently working with Caltrans to have additional ramps added near the Standard Road intersection. Construction would not begin until Phase II of the Bypass is completed. Coming in under budget frees up some funding for the additional ramps.
