Columbia College Foundation Awarding Over $120,000 In Scholarships

Columbia, CA — At a special event at Columbia College, the school’s foundation will recognize student leaders, and award scholarships.

A scholarship and award celebration is scheduled from 4:30-5:30pm, today, April 18, at the Dogwood Forum on campus. The college reports that speakers include Student of the Year Danea Palmer, who is a science student planning to transfer to UC Santa Barbara, re-entry student Max Golay, who is working toward a nursing degree, and Jon Whited, who works closely with the hospitality program and funds a scholarship for those students.

Throughout the current academic year, the foundation, and its community partners, awarded over 160 scholarships to 90 students, totaling over $120,000.

Students are encouraged to apply for scholarships in the fall, and the criteria for the awards depends on the donor preferences, such as area of study, achievement, or challenges faced.

“A college degree opens many doors,” notes Dr. Santanu Bandyopadhyay, Columbia President. “By providing scholarships and recognizing the talent of local students, Columbia College Foundation is helping our area residents to be productive members of society tomorrow. This is made possible by the generosity of all donors who contribute to the Foundation.”

Colette Such, Columbia College Foundation President adds, “What a privilege it is to do this work. While reading through these many scholarship applications, I find inspiration from the applicants’ struggle, their courage, their grit, their hope and their promise.”

Over 20 of the scholarships are funded by the Osher Scholarship Endowment, which was established in partnership with the Bernard Osher Fundation, the Foundation of California Community Colleges, and community donors.
