Passes Will Remain Closed

Sonora, CA — The three major Mother Lode mountain passes will remain closed through the remaining winter months.

Caltrans reports that the recent snowfall is enough to keep Highway 4 Ebbetts Pass and Highway 108 Sonora Pass closed until spring. Yosemite officials add that Highway 120 Tioga Pass is also closed for the season. The passes typically close for the winter before Thanksgiving, but the dry weather allowed them to remain open into January.

The passes usually reopen around Memorial Day weekend.
