CALPERS Backtracks On Database

Sacramento, CA — The state’s largest public employee pension fund is postponing plans to post pensioner data online.

Earlier this week the California Public Employees Retirement system announced plans to launch a searchable database listing retirees names, some employment history and monthly pension payments.

The Associated Press reports that CALPERS is now reversing course because a retirement group is planning to pursue state legislation to reduce the amount of information currently available under the Public Records Act. Public data for nearly 500,000 retirees was scheduled to be posted on the CALPERS database.
