Independent Living Facility Approved

Sonora, CA — Plans for a large senior living complex off Tuolumne Road will go forward. The Tuolumne County Supervisors voted 6-0 to approve a land use zone change. The zone change will allow for the planned Eagle’s Nest Independent Living Facility. The site is 460 ft. southwest of the intersection of Tuolumne Road and Eagle Ridge Drive West.

At the public meeting July 2 there was no one who spoke out in opposition. Supervisor John Grey says, “We are planning on putting some stop lights in– in the very near future… There is going to be a pretty good buffer between Lambert Lakes and what is going on… They have to have x number of parking spots per square feet of building… It appears to me that the questions on the opposition side have been well answered.”

Plans call for two assisted living facilities, which would each house 80 units. An additional 10.5 acres that currently was zoned will be open space for a total of 14.4 acres. Twenty acres were approved as mixed use with plans to divide the 11 parcels into 30. There would be a medical office building, 21 fourplexes, and three duplexes. The site is 34 acres total on Eagle Ridge Drive West.

The project was submitted by Edward and Carla Brown. Cecil Dillon founder-partner of Dillon & Murphy Consulting Civil Engineers of Lodi, representing the Brown’s project says, “It will take 24 to 36 months to fill up once it is built. We have three environmental studies to do with raptors and trees. We will not start until at least October. We may attempt to grade then, but if not, it is looking like spring of next year.” Dillon also says there is a clear need in the community, noting that people have been calling his office asking when the facility will be open.
