Update: Crash On Wards Ferry Road

Update at 4:45 p.m.: The CHP now reports that officers were unable to locate a vehicle at the scene. The dog returned to the scene and a check of its tag allowed officers to return the pooch to its home nearby.

Original post at 4 p.m.: Tuolumne County, CA — Emergency crews are on the scene of a vehicle down an embankment on Wards Ferry Road.

The CHP relays that a caller reported they were driving along the roadway near the Wards Ferry Bridge and noticed a dog on the right hand side of the shoulder looking down the hill. They stopped to investigate and found the dog was looking at an SUV that had crashed.

Officers are currently trying to locate the vehicle to see if someone is inside. With all the commotion the dog took off. We will bring you more details as soon as they come into the newsroom.
