Caltrans Under Review

Sacramento, CA — An independent organization has been hired by the State of California to conduct a review of Caltrans.

The Associated Press reports that the $270,000 review is part of Governor Jerry Brown’s state reorganization plan, which will eventually combine all transportation related departments into a single California Transportation Agency. The change is expected to take effect later this year. The state reports that it will be a “top-to-bottom” review.

Caltrans has recently come under fire from legislators over safety issues related to the construction of the Bay Bridge. Caltrans has 19,000 employees and a $12.8 billion budget.
