Winter Storm Watch Issued For The Sierra Nevada

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for the Sierra Nevada from late this afternoon through early Saturday morning.

A late season Pacific storm system will bring another round of snow above 6,000 feet.

The snow is expected to begin this afternoon increasing in intensity during the evening hours.

Heavy snow and gusty winds are forecast for Friday afternoon which will lead to hazardous travel over the mountains.

Total snow accumulations will range from eight inches to two feet over the higher elevations.

The snow will begin to diminish from late Friday evening into Saturday morning.

Winds will gust up to forty-five mph.

A Winter Storm Watch means there is potential for significant snow, sleet or ice accumulations that may impact travel.
