Sonora Police Strut Their Stuff

Sonora, CA — Youth officers with the Sonora Police Department made their job look easy by walking away with a top honor at this year’s Explorer Challenge. The Sonora Police Department’s Explorer Post team showed how it is done when faced with several challenging mock scenarios.

The Explorers were tasked with handling every day scenarios to high risk situations. The mock incidents included everything from domestic violence to traffic collision investigation to an active shooting. The Explorers were evaluated on their ability to properly perform the functions needed to address the problem or resolve the situation just as an actual officer would.

This year’s team took first place in high risk felony traffic stops; second place in active shooter; and third place in suspicious person contacts. The competition took place in Brentwood, California at the end of April.
