Avery Middle School Is “Distinguished”

Avery, CA — Avery, CA — 218 schools across California are being recognized as “California Distinguished Schools,” including one in the Mother Lode.

The California Superintendent’s Office says Avery Middle School has made the list this year. The schools selected must show progress in narrowing the academic achievement gap, and display they are going the extra mile to provide instruction that puts students on the path to college and a successful career. Distinguished schools agree to share signature practices with other schools across the state, and serve as a mentor for other districts.

The state was impressed with Avery Middle School’s “One-to-One Ipad program” where much of the students work is now done on tablet computers issued by the district. They also have a student monitoring program, where a staff member is assigned to examine how students are excelling academically, socially, and attendance wise.

“I am extremely proud of the school and the community,” says Principal Christine Cearley.

Officials from Avery Middle School will be recognized at a state ceremony next month.
