Snow Flying In Mother Lode

Columbia, CA – The snow is blanketing the Mother Lode and the roadways are slick. There have already been several fender benders. Also, the CHP is reporting 20 to 50 cars sliding along Highway 49 near Rawhide Road in Tuolumne County. Luckily there have been no actual crashes on that roadway.

We are under a National Weather Service Winter Weather Advisory which remains in effect for the Mother Lode through 11p.pm tonight. Also, a Winter Storm Warning is in effect for the Sierra Nevada through 10 p.m. on Tuesday. Two to four inches of snow is likely above 2000 feet. Half a foot to a foot of snow could fall above 3000 feet.

There are no power outages to report at this time.

The Sonora High School Board of Trustees meeting has been canceled, many evening meetings may be canceled, call before you venture out.

Columbia College Main Campus closed at 2:30pm

Conditions have worsened, highway 49 is closed, the 108 bypass is a “parking lot” Mono way had many cars spun out. There is 2-3 inches and packed snow on the roads.
