Man Struck By Vehicle Succumbs To Injuries

Angels Camp, CA — An Angels Camp man was hit by an SUV early in the morning on July 1st and police relay he has passed away due to his injuries.

The vehicle versus pedestrian collision happened on Sunday, July 1 around 5 a.m., but the victim, 60-year-old Jon VanWey, did not succumb to his injuries until nearly a week later on July 7th. Angels Camp Police report that 55-year-old Jutta Larson also from Angels Camp was driving a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox on South Main Street just north of Mayo Street when she struck VanWey in the northbound lane of the road.

It is unclear why VanWey was walking in the roadway, according to police. He was flown from the scene via air ambulance to a Modesto hospital suffering major injuries. Larson was not injured in the collision and was not cited for the accident.
