Update: Big Rig Wreck Halts Traffic On HWY 49 In Tuolumne County

Update at 1 p.m.: PG&E has pushed back the repair time for 189 customers without lights due to a Big Rig rollover on Highway 49 in the Montezuma area. The roadway has been shut down since just before 10 a.m. between Highway 108 to Simms Road. Further details on the crash are below.

Update at noon: PG&E is now reporting an electrical outage in the Montezuma area impacting 189 customers related to the Big Rig versus power pole accident. The company gives a 3 p.m. estimated restoration time. Additional information on the crash is below.

Update at 11 a.m.: The CHP relays that all activity at the Big Rig crash on Highway 49 has been halted by a PG&E crew on the scene citing an energized and leaning power pole. Officers are also reporting that a small amount of diesel fuel has spilled on the roadway but it has been contained with an absorbent material. Further details on the accident can be found  below.

Update at 10:40 a.m.: The CHP reports officer have shutdown Highway 49 from Highway 108 to Simms Road in the Montezuma Junction area. Officers are diverting traffic on 108 and 120 in Chinese Camp around the overturned semi versus power pole crash. A PG&E crew is headed to the scene. There is no estimated time given by the CHP for when the roadway will reopen. Further details on the wreck are below.

Original post at 10:29 a.m.: Chinese Camp, CA — Emergency crews are on the scene of a overturned Big Rig that crashed into a power pole on Highway 49 at Simms Road in the Montezuma Junction area.

The CHP reports the semi was hauling logs and the wreckage along with a guide wire is across the roadway blocking traffic. Officer are turning motorists around back up to Highway 108 and 120 as 49 is closed from Simms Road to Highway 120 in the Chinese Camp area. The truck driver is out of the vehicle, according to the CHP, but there are no details regarding injuries. We will bring you more details as soon as they come into the newsroom.
