Update: Highway 49 Accident Near Angels Camp

Update at 8:52am: The CHP reports that Highway 49 is in fact back open near Angels Camp. Traffic is moving freely.

Update at 8:20am: Caltrans has changed course, and now says Highway 49 will be closed until around 9am.

Update at 8:10am: Caltrans reports that all lanes of Highway 49 have reopened near Angels Camp.

Original story posted at 6:27am: Angels Camp, CA — There is a traffic hazard in Angels Camp.

The CHP reports that there was an early morning accident regarding equipment potentially hitting a power pole within a Caltrans construction area. There is also reportedly some asphalt on the highway that needs to be cleaned up. No other details regarding the incident are currently available. The CHP has closed Highway 49 roughly between Carson Hill and downtown Angels Camp. Vehicles coming from Tuolumne County are forced to turn around as they approach Angels Camp. You will want to avoid the area. Parrotts Ferry Road is the alternate route.
