Grand Opening Planned For SHS Aquatic Center

Sonora, CA — The community will soon have a chance to take a dip in Sonora High School’s new pool.

It is the final project of the $24-million Measure J bond. The contract for the project was around $6.3-million. The open house for both students and community members will be August 14 from 4-7pm.  Superintendent Pat Chabot states in a press release, “Be sure to bring your suit and towel.” The new pool includes 11 lanes, beach style entry, ADA accessibility and modern locker room facilities.

On a recent Mother Lode Views radio show, Superintendent Chabot stated, “Once the new pool is up and running and perfectly working great, we will decommission the old one. We’re not exactly sure how much we can do with that area right now because we have run out of funds due to the lawsuit, to completely decommission it. The buildings will probably remain there. Maybe we can use them for storage, or one of the ideas is to use it for our opposing team’s locker room.”

There is no cost to attend the grand opening.
