Mi Wuk Village Man Flown To Hospital Following Crash

Mi Wuk Village, CA — A Tuolumne County man suffered major injuries in a weekend crash on Highway 108.

64-year-old Michael Louis O’Connell was driving a 2014 BMW SUV near the intersection of Toban Way on Friday evening at around 8:50pm. The CHP reports that O’Connell failed to negotiate a curve, went off the highway, and slammed into a tree. The SUV hit the tree with so much force that it pinned him to the driver’s seat.

Emergency officials arrived on scene and extricated O’Connell from the SUV and he was quickly flown to Doctor’s Medical Center in Modesto. The CHP accident report notes that O’Connell was wearing a seatbelt and investigating officers have no indication that drugs or alcohol were any type of factor. Highway 108, near Mi Wuk Village, was closed for approximately 1 ½ hours late Friday evening.
