Caltrans Plans, Beginning Feb. 19, Weather Permitting

Sonora, CA — Between major repairs and rearranging crews around the rains our exceptionally active storm season is keeping the Caltrans plans fluid.

So far this coming week, at the Highway 120 James E Roberts Bridge adjacent to Lake Don Pedro, Caltrans hopes, as incoming storms permit, to have overnight crews back working on extensive renovations underway there by midweek.

The current overnight closure plan is t0 block the span Wednesday through Saturday nights from 5 p.m. each evening until 7 a.m. the following morning. Detours to Jacksonville Road are in place. Daily from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. the span remains accessible under one-way traffic control with anticipated ten-minute waits for motorists.

Other cone zones on Highway 120 this week will set up Tuesday through Friday, weather-permitting, in two locations. The first is between Forest-Packard Canyon Road and the South Fork Tuolumne Bridge, where slope repairs continue from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. that might bring ten-minute traffic delays. Between Ferretti and Elder roads, look for utility crews from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. and note there may be some momentary travel interruptions.

On Highway 49 from Highway 120 to Bear Valley Point drainage work is also scheduled Tuesday through Friday, potentially causing brief traffic hiccups from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Calaveras Cone Zones

In Calaveras County, a three-mile stretch of Highway 26 west of West Point between Higdon Road and the North Fork Mokelumne River Bridge remains under heavy repairs due to recent storm damage. The latest estimate for completion is early April.

This means for the next several weeks motorists who would usually travel through this area need to plan for delays of up to an hour while being detoured. Eastbound directional signs are routing traffic to northbound Highway 49 and eastbound Highway 88. Westbound, the alternate route runs from Highway 88 to southbound Highway 49, then back to Highway 26.

Along Highway 4 tree crews return to chores currently focusing between Batten Road in Vallecito to Meko Drive in Camp Connell. They are slated to work Tuesday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m., potentially generating ten-minute delays.

Also on Highway 26 — beginning Sunday and running through Saturday — slope repairs in progress between Gill Haven Drive to east of Alabama Hill return to the Caltrans schedule from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. Expect ten-minute delays when the crews are set up.
