Stockton Man Killed In Calaveras County Crash

Calaveras County, CA — A man driving a van in Calaveras County tragically died after being hit by a Cal-Waste garbage truck.

The crash happened on Saturday at 2:15pm on Highway 12 near Central Hill Road. The CHP reports that 23-year-old Robert Kimmel of Lockford was driving the Cal-Waste truck at an unknown speed and it slid into the opposing traffic lane. The truck hit a 2015 Chrysler van driven by 61-year-old Reay Peart of Stockton. Peart was pronounced dead at the scene, and his 60-year-old wife, Susan Peart, suffered “minor injuries” and was taken to Mark Twain Medical Center. Kimmel sustained “moderate injuries” and was taken to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto.

It was raining at the time of the crash. CHP Officer Rebecca Myers says, “Alcohol or drugs are not suspected to be a factor in this collision.” Details regarding the fatal wreck are still under investigation.
