Crash Nets Meth Bust

Jamestown, CA — A solo-vehicle wreck took out a Caltrans sign and sent the driver to jail after more than an ounce of Methamphetamine was found on him.

The crash happened just before 4 a.m. on Saturday along Highway 120 near the J59/La Grange Road intersection. The CHP reports Victor De La Cruz, 55, from San Leandro was driving his 2002 Mitsubishi Eclipse eastbound and fell asleep at the wheel. The car went off the roadway and smashed into a Caltrans electronic message board and spread debris across the highway.

The CHP states that De La Cruz was offered a ride into Sonora, but before getting into the patrol car the officer patted him down for safety reasons. That is when the officer discovered more than an ounce of methamphetamine in a plastic baggie hidden in the waistband of his pants.  De La Cruz was arrested for possession and transportation of methamphetamine for sale. His bail is $60,000.
