Sonora City Council Members To Take Oath

Sonora, CA — There will be a changing of the guard at tonight’s Sonora City Council meeting.

The winners of last month’s election, Connie Williams, Mark Plummer and Matt Hawkins will take the oath of office. Williams is the lone incumbent, however, Hawkins previously served on the council. They join sitting councilmembers George Segarini and Jim Garaventa.

The city will also recognize outgoing members Ron Stearn and Bill Canning. Stearn has served 52 years on the council and Canning 10.

In other business, the City will reconsider sending a letter to Governor Jerry Brown requesting that he allow more local input when it comes to vetting candidates for the Mother Lode Fair Board. The city’s draft letter supports the Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors idea to create an Ad Hoc committee to recruit candidates and review applications prior to the Governor’s appointment.

Prior to the regular session, the Council will also meet in closed session to discuss a couple of items. They include evaluating City Administrator Tim Miller’s job performance, and talking about the the ongoing efforts to purchase needed property at the intersection of Mono Way and Greenley Road. The closed session starts at 4:30pm and the open-to-the-public regular session at 5pm.
