Columbia Will Celebrate Graduates: Final Commencement For YCCD Chancellor

Columbia, CA — During its 47th Commencement Ceremony, Columbia College will celebrate the accomplishments of students, and say goodbye to some longtime leaders.

Columbia College President Dr. Angela Fairchilds says, “We’re going to award 270 degrees, so we’re excited about that, and we’re also going to award 79 certificates of achievement.”

This coming Friday the Oak Pavilion will be filled with friends, family and faculty of the graduating class. “The whole place vibrates with excitement,” she adds.

Dr. Fairchilds notes that during her remarks she plans to recognize Don Smith, Computer Science Instructor, and Gene Wamble with the Hospitality Management Program, as both will be retiring effective Friday.

In addition, it will be the final commencement address for Dr. Joan Smith, Chancellor of the Yosemite Community College District.  Dr. Fairchilds says that last month Dr. Smith announced her retirement. Dr. Smith was the Columbia College President from 2006-2010 and has 36 years of education experience.

The Commencement Ceremony will start at 6:30pm on Friday at Oak Pavilion and it is open to the public. Meanwhile, the Columbia College Fire Science Academy will hold its ceremony Thursday, at the same location and time.
