Sonora Leaders To Vote On Marijuana Rules And Budget Adjustments

Sonora, CA — The Sonora City Council is planning to vote on a new ordinance that would allow medical marijuana patients to grow up to six plants.

Earlier this month the council passed the first reading of the proposed rule changes, with a 3-2 vote. On Tuesday, the city leaders will decide whether to waive the second reading, and approve the amendments. If passed, the city would then hold a public hearing on March 7 about implementing a registration fee and renewal fee for cultivating marijuana.

Currently, the city bans medical marijuana cultivation. It is noted that the new proposal would continue to place a ban on medical marijuana dispensaries.

In addition, the city council will consider adjustments to the mid-year budget, and whether to give a two-percent cost of living adjustment for employees in the Fire, Management and Misc. bargaining groups. The regular session portion of the meeting starts at 5pm on Tuesday at City Hall.

In addition, the council will meet at 4:15pm in closed session to discuss efforts to purchase the Corner Gas property at the intersection of Mono Way and Greenley Road. City leaders will talk about the price and terms of payment.
