Holiday Weekend CHP Report

More vehicles on the road during the California Highway Patrol’s Thanksgiving holiday Maximum Enforcement period meant an increase in accidents this year.

CHP patrolled using its Maximum Enforcement guidelines from 6 p.m. Wednesday, November 25 until 11:59 p.m. Sunday. The Sonora Area CHP notes there were five people arrested for driving under the influence and no fatal accidents. There were four crashes the Sonora area CHP handled, three non-injury and one minor injury accident. Last year six DUI arrests were made in the Sonora area, but there were no collisions. Bad weather reportedly kept many people at home last year, this year’s weather was ideal for skiing with both Dodge and Bear Valley open as well as Leland Snowplay for sledding and several Christmas Tree farms opened as well.

The San Andreas CHP office was very busy, handling seven collisions. In two of the collisions no one was reported as hurt, the other five accidents caused injuries but none were described as major.  San Andreas CHP officers also arrested one person for DUI and issued 40 other citations, that is one less than last year. Speeding violations made up 26 of the 40 citations.
