Flash Flood Warning Issued

Calaveras County, CA — The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for several areas in the Mother Lode, notably near the Butte Fire footprint.

The northwestern region of Calaveras County along with Amador County are included in the warning. This morning Doppler Radar showed heavy rain moving across those counties. Additional concerns are for possible debris flows and mudslides that can be triggered by the down pour in steep terrain.   The mud slides can consist of rock, vegetation and other loose materials, according to the National Weather Service.

Communities included in the warning include Jackson, Paloma, San Andreas, Drytown, Somerset, Railroad Flat, Fiddletown, Mountain Ranch, Valley Springs, Pioneer, Volcano, Glencoe and Sutter Creek. The National Weather Service encourages residents in the those areas to stay away from low lying areas and the burn scar.  Additionally, vehicles should never cross flooded roadways.

The flash flood warning is in effect until 10:30 a.m.
