Sky Fire Up To 538 Acres

Oakhurst, CA — A fire burning outside of Oakhurst has grown to 538 acres and it is 15% contained.

The Sky Fire was ignited by a vehicle yesterday afternoon. It is located along Sky Ranch Road in the Sierra National Forest. It is creating notable drift smoke in the region. Several nearby residences and campgrounds have been evacuated.  The fire is six miles northeast of Oakhurst. 200 firefighters are on scene. The incident command reports that there is still potential for growth over the next couple of days. Firefighters are dealing with hot temperatures, heavy fuels, steep slopes and drought conditions.

The American Red Cross has set up an evacuation center at the Sierra Vista Church.

Update 6/29/15: Sierra National Forest says containment is 100% and reduced the numbers of acres burned to 500.
