Updated: Crash Ignites Highway 12 Fire

Updated 3:25pm: The 12 acre vegetation fire has been contained. Traffic will continue to be impacted this afternoon because PG&E is working to repair the downed power pole and lines.

Updated 3:00pm: Cal Fire reports the vegetation fire is now 12 acres. No homes are  considered in danger. Traffic is down to one lane on Highway 12.

Original story posted at 2:50pm: Calaveras County, CA — There is a lot of activity near Highway 12 in Calaveras County, near the Southworth Road intersection.

A vehicle accident has occurred, and it has ignited a roughly two acre vegetation fire. An ambulance has been dispatched. No structures are immediately threatened.

The vehicle hit a power pole and some lines are currently down. The accident is blocking the westbound traffic lane of Highway 12. Travel with caution in the area.
